I agree with Sportsman. I don't think our schools are secure at all. It wouldn't be that hard to walk into any school and do some serious damage. I go in about 5-6 schools regularly throughout the year, and most are unaware of who is coming and going through the doors. Many have cameras watching the doors, but no one seems to watch them to see who is coming and going.

    Re: CHS locked down?

I have been able to walk into school buildings & school events unchecked many times, usually carrying a large bag with me. Granted some folks know me but not everyone does. No one has ever stopped me.

On second thought, maybe the direction of this thread isnt the best for public viewing! It's kind of like telling the terrorists where the weak links are in public security...
    You'll shoot your eye out.

Just to pipe in on the security side of things. My middle school and all the elementary schools keep all their doors locked and you can only enter through the front door, which has a video display, a buzzer, and an intercom. Someone in the building literally has to see them, speak to them, and then buzz them in. I'm not sure about our high school, but I know that they can now lock all their doors.

Agreed. If someone really wanted to, they could walk in and start shooting and hurt plenty of people before anything was done.

The fact that he was walking all around the school before they even did anything just goes to show the lack of security.

If it was someone who was really wanting to cause harm, would the school have been locked down before he had made it into the office to prevent them from doing so?

    Just something to think about.

The guy could have signed in and then killed people, it really wouldnt have mattered. Nothing is full proof but I believe that they are working to get state grants to step up security down there.

I suggested ID cards to be let in the buildings, much like in college campuses. Kids dont have their card, they dont come in. Treat it like someone skipping school, teach them a little responsibility in the process.

That idea is being considered I do believe. They are considering the norton elementary school idea where you have to buzz in and identify yourself for the doors to be unlocked.

That's an excellent idea yankee. Too bad there'd be parents and such crying about it.
